Modern Museum Architecture
Museum architecture has gone through a huge development over the last decennia. Buildings have become real eyecatchers and a successful design can be a tremendous boost for the city is has been built in, for example the Guggenheim Museum (1997) from Frank O. Gehry in Bilbao. It sometimes seems that the building is almost more important than the collection it holds.
In this lecture we focus on the development of this type of building. From chronological organized museum temples, to exciting new designs all over the world: from Milwaukee to Doha, from London to Madrid. You will see work from famous architects like Jean Nouvel, Oscar Niemeyer, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid and many others. More and more the specific location and collection is an integrated element of the design process.
